Dyed my hair

Put on a dress to match. Another fabulous thrift shop find. It a kaftan of sorts and I had an 80's belt to have a bit if a waist. Fall is here and it was a warm one today.
Spent the afternoon waiting at the Apple Store to exchange a phone and missed seeing my dear friend due to drive time.
Hope your Saturday was fun.

Purple makes an appearance

I am still in mostly black but pulled out this beauty. It was a gift from my friend in San Jose. It's background color is black a d has beautiful purples and pinks. So amazing!
It's been above fall and warming up. I do look forward to more chilly weather, hot cider and some snuggling.

Still in Black

Mixing up a few key items and seeing what I can come up with. Here I am today outside the medical lab. I have a glittery spider headband on I made.
I'm enjoying fall. I hope you are.

Busy Day

Had a busy day visiting a friend. Again no full body picture. Such is life. Here is my crooked tooth smile and end of the day hair.

Head Shot

I didn't get a full body picture yesterday. I was in all black except my red heels and the white polka dots of my headscarf. I have been feeling so confident lately. Trying to get me creative with my clothes, I only have so many now since focusing on just black mainly.
Have an amazing day!

Why All The Black?

picnikfile_5kXt5C

The color I wear has nothing to do with my weight and short stature, although I admit to loving a nice clean black dress. Today I am wearing black, again with a touch of red. In fall and winter blacks and greys fill the streets and the shopping centers. In Southern California it makes us think we are sophisticated even, when we may not be. When I go to stores and other public places I see woman in pajama bottoms and mens shirts. Not always a flattering choice.
I have a cousin who needs a kidney. She is like a sister to me. Growing up we had our times of being close and times of total despise. But, in the end we still very much love each other and can confide in one another about most anything. She will be 37 years old next week. Since she was a teenager she has been diabetic. She has lived a rough adult life dealing with addiction, the loss of some very important people in her life, including her mother who died in her arms. She's been married and has a daughter who lives with the dad.
A couple years ago she was having eye surgeries and we were on the phone hopeful of her vision returning full. She was outside at her house listening to kids feel the streets after school. She could see the sunlight and was able to make out shadows....when it went completely black. Obviously she was upset and asked me to take her to the hospital. Living about 30 miles away I told her to sit tight and call her doctor. It was a warm March day, even for Southern California it was rather warm. My five kids and I gathered into my minivan and headed out to pick her up and drive another 30 or so miles.
She got to her eye doctor who is part of Loma Linda University, and after a long visit...."Your sight is a complete loss.", is what was said to her. My oldest who was about nine at the time was in the room with her. Sorrow filled his heart and she rallied. Even to this day, she says without sight she is able to see people better now.
She has battled infections in her head, her foot and her intestinal system. Her blood pressure is high, she has congestive heart failure and her kidney's are shot. She recently started dialysis. She needs a kidney, and for some reason there is a lag on setting her up with a transplant specialist. So until she can get things going I have vowed to wear mostly black, and am in the process of designing an arm band with a kidney on it. I am hoping to be a match and replace the armband with a kidney tattoo.
This is why I wear black.

10.05.2011 Full Body
10.05.2011 Face

Hello, there! My name is Button. I am a 35 year old momma to five who makes home in lovely Southern California. For years, I had lost my sense of style. My first child was born when I was 23 and I figured mom clothes is what was my destiny. After many years of various forms of the mom me, I found my creative self again....and my style is an extension of that.
This is what I wore today. Except for the tights the whole outfit is thrift shopped. I made the bow.
